Saturday brought a third local Bazaar at the Alaskan Heritage Center. The scupture outside the center is of RAVEN who created their earth. (Actual live ravens do not migrate and quite the noisy ones.)
Descriptions of the four ornaments in the photos below:
The boot ornament is of seal skin and fur.
Next is the coyote fur decorative pin.
The the Eskimo is made of more seal fur.
Finally the face pen is surrounded with polar bear fur.
The tree is from a local ACE Hardware with not as much inventory and fun as the Ace's in Clayton and Atlanta. It does have a post office inside though.
You will see a landscape which at first has the colors of our sunset, but it is a sun RISE, not sun set. My internal time clock fits adapts well to Alaskan winter time. I can get up, shower, eat, make phone calls and still not miss the sunrise.
Where to shop in the area for Alaskan Native art:
website for the Heritage center is : http://www.alaskanative.net/
Also you can check out the Anchorage museum at http://www.anchoragemuseum.org/
Foxy and I drove north to Wassila which is about 70 miles north west of Anchorage. Denali National Park is 378 miles from Anchorage and travel time is estimated 6.5 hours in the summer.
